What is Traditioal Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture?
The practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history of over 5000 years. TCM incorporates a variety of highly effective and interrelated modalities into a medical system, which takes each individual patient  as a whole entity, rather than simply treating "diseases". Acupuncture, being part of TCM, is a well practiced medical treatment in both the East and West. It is an art of the inserting of fine needles on the body's surface in order to influence and alter the physiological functioning of the body.

How does Acupuncture Work?
Medical sciences have no real answer for this. By some unknown process, Acupuncture simulates levels of endorphins, hormones, neurotransmitters, blood counts, gamma globulins, and antibody levels. One theory is the "Gate Theory", which means Acupuncture over-stimulates  the impulses to block pain perception.
The Chinese theory of Acupuncture is based on the idea that the body has an energy force, Qi (Chee), running through it. The Qi consists of all essential life activities, which include the spiritual, emotional, mental and the physical aspects of life. A person's health is influenced by the flow of Qi in the body, in combination with the universal forces.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?
No. In most cases, a sensation of heat or tingling, is felt by the patients.  There are different  methods by which an Acupuncturists insert needles for treatments of different diseases. Today, the Acupuncture needles are used once and disposed.

What other alternatives can be offered?
One of the most popular alternatives is Acupressure, which is Acupuncture without needles. Stimulation of the Acupuncture points is performed with the fingers or an instrument with a hard ball-shaped head.

What does Acupuncture treat?
Basically, TCM and Acupuncture can be used to treat many medical conditions. Pain, hormonal, neurological, muscular-skeletal, psychological, metabolic, and the immune systems, are some of the systems that can be greatly affected by acupuncture.
Conditions that have been well-known to be treated by Acupuncture includes: low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, knee pain, arthritis, headaches, menstrual cramps, neuralgia, shingles, impotence, and muscular spasm.
